Sorry that the pictures are a little smaller and more blurry than usual! Hawk fans - I should be able to get some better pictures at this weekends Jaguar game!

The 4-1 Willamette Valley Raiders (Portland, OR) made the 3 hour drive up I-5 to battle the league leading 5-0 Eastside Hawks (Kirkland, WA) in a clash of NWFL/NAFL Titans.

The Hawks started the game at their own 30 yard line with a ten play, 36 yard drive down to the Raiders 34 yard line. The Raider defense stepped up with Ishmail Littleton blindsiding the Hawk QB Lance Westendorft on first down, and then more pressure forcing an incompletion on 2nd. Raider CB Marvin Bronson knocked away Lance Westendorf's 3rd down pass attempt to end the drive. The Hawk punt went out at the Raider 19 yard line.

Derrick Williams opened the scoring with this 6 yard TD catch.
Back to back 10 yard penalties pushed the Raiders back to their 9 and one more penalty on 4th down pushed them back to the 5. Kevin Bickler's punt went out at the Raider 37.

The Hawks embarked on a 5 play drive with Andre Edwards' 28 yard run being the key play. Three plays later Westendorf found Derrick Williams in the endzone for the score. Craig Howley's PAT put the Hawks up 7-0 with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter.

Hawk MLB Aaron Wardrip stuffs FB Beau Gates for a 2 yard loss.
CB Terrance Ivory knocks a sure TD pass away from Antonio Chandler
The Raider offense continued to struggle with the Hawks tough defense. RB Beau Gates sliced through the Hawk defense for 5 yards on first down, but was met by MLB Aaron Wardrip for a 2 yard loss on 2nd. On 3rd and 5, QB Kevin Bickler connected with WR Antonio Chandler for 16 yards and the Raiders only first down of the half. Leyland Johnston stormed through to sack Bickler for an 8 yard loss and then Terrance Ivory knocked away a long pass intended for Antonio Chandler and the Raiders were forced to punt. A penalty on the Hawk return pushed them back to their 16, and then another penalty put them at their own 8. Westendorf hit WR Jimmy McCollum for 11 yards to set up 3rd and 7 at the 19. Raider DE Donald Hobart
DE Donald Hobart forced a fumble on this sack of Westendorf to set up the Raiders first score.

Marvin Bronson outjumps 2 defenders in the corner of the endzone.
Raider #45 at the 10. Two plays later Bickler lofted a pass over two Hawk defenders to WR Marvin Bronson in the front corner of the endzone. Bronson outjumped the defense to put the Raiders on the board. The PAT went wide left allowing the Hawks to cling to a 1 point lead with 10:51 remaining in the half.

Sprung by a lead block by FB Brian Young on the Raider LB (left), Sidney Orange blows through the Raider defense for a 19 yard gain.
Mike Rigell extended the Hawk lead with this TD catch.
After a short kickoff, the Hawks took over at their 31 and went to work. Sidney Orange had 4 carries for 29 yards on the drive and his 19 yard run moved the ball into Raider territory. Despite constant pressure from LB Ishmael Littleton, Westendorf led the Hawks on a 7 play, 69 yard scoring drive. He hit Mike Rigell on a fade from 22 yards for the score. With just over 6:00 left in the half the Hawks led 14-6.

Raider CB Marvin Bronson highsteps into the endzone after a 55 yard intercepton return.
Despite tight coverage by Cory Walker, Bickler was able to thread this pass in to Terrance Dickens for the 2 point conversion.
The Raider offense continued to struggle and went 3 and out. Hawk linebacker Sam Blanche forced the Raiders to punt when he sacked Bickler for a 7 yard loss on 3rd and 8. Bickler boomed a towering punt and a 15 yard penalty on the return pushed the Hawks back to their own 18. The Hawks moved out to midfield when disaster struck. A miscommunication between QB and WR caused a pass to go straight to CB Marvin Bronson, who easily returned it 55 yards for a score. Bickler threaded a pass to a well covered Terrance Dickens for the 2 point conversion, and with 1:13 remaining the score was tied at 14.

Jimmy McCollum turned this quick slant into a 22 yard gain.
Another short kickoff set up the Hawks at their own 41 with just over a minute left. Working without any timeouts, Westendorf hit Jimmy McCollum for 22 yards down to the Raider 36. The Hawks took one shot at the endzone before sending Craig Howley out to attempt a 54 yard field goal as time expired. The kick came up short and at the half the score was tied at 14.

Great concentration by Chad Sorenson turned this near interception into a 27 yard gain on the Raiders opening drive of the 2nd half.
Safety Julian Williams made a great effort to deflect this ball but Chandler was still able to grab it for a go ahead touchdown.
The Raiders opened the second half with a 9 play, 80 yard scoring drive to take a 20-14 lead. 30 yards of Hawk penalties helped the Raider cause. Kevin Bickler bounced a pass off the hands of a Hawk DB right to Antonio Chandler for the score.

The Hawks took over at their owner 13 and moved the ball out past midfield before pressure from the Raider forced 3 consecutive incompletions. Mike Crowley's punt was nearly downed at the Raider 1 but the coverage man was in the endzone when he touched the ball resulting in a touchback. The Hawk defense stiffened and the Raiders could only gain 1 first down on a 27 yard pass interference penalty. Kevin Bickler's punt was downed at the 24 after nearly being blocked by Cory Walker. A 16 yard strike from Brad Collins to WR Derrick Smith and Raider a personal foul moved the ball across midfield. Heavy pressure caused back to back incompletions and the Hawks turned the ball over on downs at the Raider 46.

TE Karl Hanson appeared to make the catch on a 4 and 1 fake punt pass from Bickler, but safety Julian Williams separated him from the ball.

The Hawk line opened up a huge hole for Andre Edwards on the last play of the 3rd quarter.
Raider CB Antonio Chandler thwarted the Hawk offense with this interception in the endzone.
The Raider defense gave their offense a great opportunity to expand their 20-14 lead. FB Beau Gates busted into the secondary for a 9 yard gain on first down. The Raiders tried to send Gates up the middle to pick up the first down but he was stuffed for no gain by Aaron Wardrip, Washington Mose and Jonathan King. King batted down Bickler's 3rd down pass attempt and the Raiders were forced to punt with :41 left in the 3rd quarter. Having barely gotten the last punt away, the Raiders called a fake with QB/punter Kevin Bickler hitting TE Karl Hanson over the middle for an apparent first down. Hawk safety Julian Williams timed his rib-bruising hit perfectly and separated Hanson from the ball. Williams' hit set up the Hawk offense at their own 40 yard line. A personal foul on the Raiders and 3 runs by Andre Edwards moved the ball down to the Raider 28 as the 3rd quarter ended. On first down Brad Collins rolled to his right to avoid pressure from Donald Hobart and Ishmael Littleton and lofted a pass to TE Derrick Pleasant in the endzone. Raider CB Antonio Chandler cut in front of Pleasant for the easy interception.

Hawk WR Jimmy McCollum (top) was wide open for this go-ahead TD pass from Brad Collins
Bickler lofts a deep pass to TE David Littleton which covered 66 yards and gave the Raiders a 26-21 lead.

The Raider offense couldn't take advantage of the turnover and was forced to punt. Bickler boomed a 45 yarder that was downed at the Hawk 34. Andre Edwards went to work and ripped off a 14 yard gain on first down. Then Collins hit WR Derrick Williams on a fade down to the 15 yard line. From there Collins was able to avoid the Raider pressure long enough for Jimmy McCollum to work his way open in the endzone for an easy score to finish the 6 play, 66 yard drive. Craig Howley's PAT put the Hawks up 21-20 with 7:54 left in the game.

Another deep kickoff by Hawk kicker Howley pushed Raider returner David Littleton 5 yards deep into his endzone. Littleton was able to advance out to the 10, but a penalty on the return pushed the Raiders back to their 10. On 3rd and 5 Bickler was able to avoid pressure from DT Leyland Johnston and get the ball to Littleton for a 12 yard gain and a new set of downs. A 7 yard pass to FB Beau Gates coupled with a personal foul on the Hawks got another first down. Bickler then went over the top Chandler but safety Karl Wright was step for step with him and knocked the ball away. On the next play Bickler rolled left to avoid the blitz of DB Colan Sewell and lofted a deep pass to Littleton who was running behind the Hawk defense. Littleton caught the ball and easily outraced the defense for a 66 yard touchdown. Bicklers 2 point conversion pass attempt sailed over Beau Gates but the Raiders still managed to take a 26-21 lead with 5:02 left in the game. (6 play, 90 yard drive)

Andre Edwards exploded up the middle and outran the defense for 44 yard touchdown.
The Raider safety had Edwards in his sites but WR Mike Rigell (not pictured) came in from the right and put himself between Edwards and the would-be tackler.
A short Raider kickoff was returned by LB Eric Bellamy down to the Raider 44 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, RB Andre Edwards exploded up the middle and hurdled a would-be tackler before cutting back to the left and outrunning the Raider safety down the sideline to the endzone. A key block by WR Mike Rigell about the 5 allowed Edwards to stay in bounds. Collins lofted a pass to Derrick Williams for the 2 point conversion and with just over 4 minutes remaining the Hawks were back on top 29-26.

This pass to Chad Sorenson set up the Raiders go-ahead score.
TE David Littleton made this amazing grab at the 1 and then had the presence of mind to extend the ball across the goal line as he was being pushed out of bounds.
Starting at the own 25 the Raider offense again went to work. Bickler hit Antonio Chandler for 15 and 26 yards on the first two plays of the drive moving the ball to the Hawk 34. The drive stalled a bit as Bickler threw 3 consecutive incompletions. A defensive holding penalty wiped out the last one and gave the Raiders a first down. Bickler threaded a pass to WR Chad Sorenson down the middle to move down to the 8. Two more incompletions, both forced by pressure from DE Mitch Dillard, brought up 3rd and goal with 1:44 left. Bickler dropped back and launched what looked like a prayer to David Littleton who was running a short out pattern at the 1 yard line. Somehow Littleton made the finger tip grab and then extended the ball across the goal line as he was pushed out of bounds. The 9 play, 75 yard drive put the Raiders ahead 32-29.

Pressure from DE Donald Hobart forced the Hawk QB to hurry his throw which was intercepted by Antonio Chandler.

With less than 2:00 and only one timeout left the Hawks tried to answer in one play. Raider DE Donald Hobart broke through the line and forced Collins to hurry his deep throw to a streaking receiver. The pass came up short and Antonio Chandler was there for an easy interception. The Raider fans erupted as Chandler was escorted down 54 yards down the sideline by most of Raider defensive players. The inconsequential PAT was blocked by DT Washington Mose but the Raider defense had iced the game, 38-29, with under a minute to play.

The Hawks didn't give up and Raider CB Marvin Bronson got his 2nd interception of the game on what was a near instant replay of Chandler's interception. Bronson was stopped by Collins and OT Jon Hammersmark after a 40 yard return. One kneel down by the Raider offense ended the game.
