DE Shay Dean forces an incomplete pass on 3rd and 1.

Despite kicking off from the 25 due to a penalty on his first attempt, Craig Howley's opening kickoff went into the endzone for a touchback. After RB Phil Joseph was stuffed for no gain on first down, Eagle QB Sam Clemons hit WR Puma Henderson out in the flat on second down. Henderson was immediately tackled short of he first down by Eric Bellamy and Terrance Ivory. On 3rd down DE Shay Dean hit Clemons as he threw and the ball sailed incomplete. JJ Standring boomed a 51 yard punt that forced Ivory to catch over his shoulder while running towards his own goal line. By the time Ivory got turned around he was immediately tackled by Mike Magrini at the Hawk 20.

CB Jonathan Martin had the games first big play with an interception he returned to the Hawk 35..

The Hawks tried to go off tackle with Andre Edwards on first down but DE Brian Biltek tossed aside the offensive tackle and stopped Edwards after a short gain. On 2nd down it was DT Andy Olsen overpowering a Hawk lineman to stop Edwards for no gain. On 3rd and 9 Westendorf dropped back to throw deep down the left sideline to Jimmy McCollum. His linemen were pushed back into him as he released the ball and his pass came up short. CB Jonathan Martin intercepted the ball at the Hawk 41 and returned it down to the 35 before being stopped by McCollum and Derrick Smith. The Eagles were nailed with a 15 yard sideline violation as the side judge was upended by an Eagle coach while following the play down the Eagle sideline.

Sam Clemons connected with Curtis Gordon on this 39 yard scoring pass early in the first quarter.
CB Lenny Haynes knocked this pass away from Puma Henderson.
Phil Joseph found nothing but daylight on this draw. He gained 11 yards before being stopped by safety Julian Williams.

Starting from midfield, Clemons went down the middle to Henderson but CB Lenny Haynes got a hand in to knock the ball incomplete. On 2nd down, Joseph gained 11 yards up the middle and a first down. On first down from the 39, Clemons went over the top down the left sideline with a perfect pass to Curtis Gordon. Gordon appeared to be well covered but excelerated away from the defender to get separation as the ball arrived. Peter Cebulka's PAT put the Eagles up 7-0 with 10:11 remaining in the first quarter.

.
Leroy McFadden 36 yard punt return set up an Eagles field goal.
Despite the effort of safety Julian Williams, Peter Cebulka's 28 yard field goal put the Eagles up 10-0 with 4:37 left in the first quarter.

The Hawks muffed the ensuing kickoff and the returner was only able to get out to the 17 before being tackled by Ryan Johnson and Antrien Fisher. On first down RB Sidney Orange was stuffed for no gain by Mark Pickett and Naim Rashid. A delay of game

LB Eric Bellamy pressures Clemons into an incomplete pass.

penalty and dropped pass on 2nd down brought up 3rd and 15. WR Brian Carter was WIDE open on an out and up pattern but the ball was overthrown. Sean O'Laughlin boomed a 48 yard punt that pushed Leroy McFadden back to the Eagle 40 yard line. He split a couple of defenders up the middle and then cut outside and down the Eagle sideline before being stopped by Will Postell at the Hawk 24 yard line. Runs of 6 and 3 yards by Joseph set up 3rd and inches. Clemons rolled right and tried to squeeze a ball between defenders to Gordon but it was knocked away and nearly intercepted by LB Duke Garrett. .
Hawk RB Sidney Orange drags tacklers for a 9 yard ride.
Orange gained 5 yards on this run.
Terrance Ivory's 22 yard kickoff return set up the Hawks at their 33. Consecutive runs by Sidney Orange gained 12 yards and a first down - the first of the game for the Hawks. Two more runs gained 8 yards and then on 3rd and 2 the Hawks were hit with a 15 yard penalty for a cut block. Another dropped pass was nullified as Westendorf was ruled to have been across the line of scrimmage when he threw it. The loss of down on the illegal forward pass brought up 4th and 21 and the Hawks were forced to punt. Kywan Edmonson returned the punt out to the 38 but a personal foul pushed the ball back to the 23.
2ND QUARTER
Michael Travis gained 19 yards on this run early in the 2nd quarter.
Sidney Orange finds a huge hole up the middle for a 10 yard gain.

The Eagles took over at their own 23 with 1:28 remaining in the 1st quarter. They went on a 15 play - 68 yard drive that consumed half of the 2nd quarter. On 4th and 3 from the Hawks 9 yard line Clemons tried to draw the Hawks offsides. Two Hawks jumped and center Ryan Lambert snapped the ball to Clemons who took a knee. The officials ruled that the Hawks were back on their side of the line when the ball was snapped so the play counted. First down Hawks at the 11.

.
Joel Robnett pressured JJ Standring into shanking a 5 yard punt.
Westendorf barely missed connecting with Jimmy McCollum on this long pass.

A penalty pushed the Hawks back to their 6 and then a 10 yard run by Sidney Orange helped give the Hawks some breathing room but they couldn't get the first and were forced to punt. The Hawk punt went out of bounds at the Hawk 41 yard line. The Eagles were only able to gain 2 yards in 3 plays so on came punter JJ Standring. The punt snap went to upback Leroy McFadden who swept left for 11 yards and an apparent first down but a penalty nullified the play. The Eagles punted again and this time pressure by Joel Robnett caused a short punt that went out of bounds at the Hawk 39.

The Hawks again went 3 and out. A quick pass to Mike Rigell gained 6 yards on first down. Pressure from Myron Knox and Brian Ceaser forced Westendorf to throw the ball away on 2nd down. Westendorf nearly connected deep with Jimmy McCollum running behind the Eagle secondary but the ball went off his fingertips. Hawk punter Sean O'Laughlin boomed a 48 yard punt that was downed at the Eagle 12 with 2:17 remaining before halftime.

.
On 4th and 10 from the Hawk 40, punter JJ Standring connected with Jonathan Martin for 15 yards to keep the drive alive.

Jakoba Square alluded several tackles and turned this deep crossing route into a 55 yard touchdown.
A 21 yard kickoff return by Kywan Edmonson set up the Eagles at their own 34 but the Eagle offense was unable to move the ball. Standring's 39 yard punt was returned 19 yards out to the Hawk 45 by Terrance Ivory. On the next play Westendorf hit WR Jakoba Square 25 yards downfield on a deep crossing route. Square eluded several tacklers on his way to the endzone. John Witte blocked the PAT but a penalty on the Eagles gave Howley another chance and he nailed it. With 10:18 left in the 3rd quarter the Hawks had pulled to within 3, 17-14.
.
Pat Gilbert (left) kept Cosentino's arms pinned allowing Eric Bellamy (far right) to recover the fumble.
Pat Gilbert and Mitch Dillard celebrate Eric Bellamy's fumble recovery.

A personal foul on the Hawks PAT had them kicking off from their own 15. A short return by Edmonson set up the Eagles at their own 43. On 2nd down the ball popped out of FB Nick Cosentino's arms. He dove to recover the ball but was tackled by DT Pat Gilbert and came up short. The ball was lying against him but Gilbert had his arms pinned so he couldn't grab it. LB Eric Bellamy was the first to arrive and covered the ball at the Eagle 44. DT Leyland Johnston showed his appreciation by slapping Bellamy silly while he lay on the ground with the ball.

.
Mike Rigell gained 12 yards down the sideline before Jonathan Martin pushed him out of bounds.
Howley easily made this 47 yard field goal which earned him special teams player of the game.

After another dropped pass, Beard and John Witte sacked Westendorf for a 5 yard loss. On 3rd down Josh Branch was only able power his way through defenders for a 7 yard gain after catching a short pass. Craig Howley booted a 47 yard field goal to tie the game with 6:33 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

.
Curtis Gordon caught this halfback pass from Leroy McFadden for a 35 yard gain down to the 1 which set up McFadden's game winning score
Leroy McFadden stretches for the game winning score with 1:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
A short kickoff caromed off an Eagle upback at the 29 and went out of bounds. The Eagles answered immediately with a 10 play - 73 yard drive to regain the lead with 1:29 remaining in the third quarter. The key play was a 35 yard halfback pass from McFadden to Gordon on 3rd and 5 from the Hawk 36. CB Terrance Ivory had great position on the play but Gordon was more aggressive in going for the ball. Had Gordon been the defender he probably would have been called for interference on Ivory. Leroy McFadden finished the drive with a one yard plunge behind the left side of the line. He initially was wrapped up short by Shay Dean but lunged and stretched the ball across the goal line.

4TH QUARTER
Westendorf was under heavy pressure all game and took quite a pounding.
This punishing sack by Brian Blitek popped the ball loose (it's right above Blitek's helmet in thiis picture).
The Hawks took over at their 28 and on their first play Westendorf hit Mike Rigell for 27 yards. The Hawks moved the ball down to the Eagle 25 with both first downs coming courtesy of the Eagle defense. Kywan Edmonson came up big for the Eagles, knocking away a Westendorf pass intended for Rigell on 2nd down, and then sacking Westendorf for a 9 yard loss on 3rd down. Brian Blitek ended the Hawk drive by sacking Westendorf for an 8 yard loss on 4th down. The hit caused Westendorf, who was shaken up on the play, to fumble and guard Josh Wright covered the ball for the Hawks.
.
left: DT Pat Gilbert bulled his way through the Eagle line to stuff Leroy McFadden for no gain. right: CB Terrance Ivory nearly intercepted this pass to Curtis Gordon down the middle.
This screen pass to Phil Joseph could have been huge had the ball been delivered behind the 3 blockers.
The Eagles took over at their 42 with 10:41 left to play. DT Pat Gilbert stuffed McFadden for no gain on first down. Terrance Ivory knocked away a deep slant pass intended for Gordon on 2nd down, and LB Duke Garrett sniffed out a screen pass to Phil Joseph for no gain on 3rd down. .
DT Pat Gilbert closes in for the sack.
DE Mitch Dillard stopped RB Jack Ball as soon as he got the handoff.

Starting at their 30 with 6:11 left, the Eagle offense struggled. A personal foul for an illegal cut block pushed them back to the 15, and then Pat Gilbert and Shay Dean combined to sack Clemons for a 3 yard loss. A run by Jack Ball was stuffed for a 3 yard loss by Mitch Dillard. Joel Robnett knocked away Clemons pass on 3rd and 31 from the 9. Punting from his own 5 after another penalty, Standring hit a 43 yard punt that pushed Ivory fielded at the 48 and returned 8 yards.

.
CB Jonathan Martin was the only player close to this deep pass.
Leroy McFadden bursts up the middle for 24 yards.

Starting at the Eagle 40 with just over 4:00 remaining, the Hawks had an excellent opportunity to tie the game. On first down Collins let one fly deep to Jimmy McCollum only to be intercepted by Jonathan Martin who returned the ball out the 16. Leroy McFadden broke for 24 yards on first down but the Hawk defense stepped up from there, holding Joseph to 4 yards on 2 carries, and then knocking away Clemons 3rd down pass attempt. The ball was thrown behind Mike Magrini and knocked up in the air by Terrance Ivory. The ball bounced off Magrini's helmet and then off his hands right to safety Karl Wright at midfield, but was ruled incomplete. A short punt didn't give Ivory much of a chance for a big return.

.
Mike Rigell nearly got around the corner on this quick out. The play went for 11 yards before being pushed out of bounds by Owen Gilleland.
Mark Pickett gave Westendorft a solid shot to the helmet after a 5 yard scramble.
With 2:01 remaining and no timeouts, the Hawks were 74 yards away from tying the game. Westendorf connected with Rigell on a quick out for 11 yards. Had safety Owen Gilleland not been there to barely push Rigell out of bounds he may have scored on the play. Westendorf hit Rigell on a quick slant for 15 yards across midfield but a late hit penalty on OL Jason McIntosh pushed the Hawks back to their own 30. Westendorf scrambled up the middle for 5 yards. He slid to a stop but was hit anyway by LB Mark Pickett which cost the Eagles 15 yards and moved the ball out to midfield. Westendorf was again shaken up on the play but stayed in. Two incompletions and a dropped pass by a wide open receiver brought up 4th and 10. Westendorf connected with Rigell for 13 yards to give the Hawks four more downs. A clock stopping spike, another dropped pass and a 3 yard sack by Gene Beard brought up 4th and 13 from the 40 with under a minute left. With the Eagles guarding against the deep pass, Westendorf hit McCollum underneath. He put on a few moves but was quickly surrounded by Eagles and ended up going out of bounds well short of the first down. The Eagles needed to kneel down just once to end the game.
